Episode 33: A Turning Point for Edward was uploaded on December 12, 2017 and is the ninth episode of the fourth season. It is also the first part of the season finale.
Plot
Edward is getting old, physically and mentally. He is starting to wonder whether it is time for him to withdraw from regular service.

Trivia
- The idea for this episode came before Edward was removed from the ”Steam Team” for Nia in the TV series’ 2018 rebrand Thomas & Friends: Big World! Big Adventures!. In addition to Edward, Henry was also replaced in the group by another new female engine, Rebecca, in order to change the Steam Team into a near-equal gender ratio of four male and three female engines. The changeover from Edward and Henry to Nia and Rebecca was done in order to address criticism from feminists over a lack of female members in the main cast, and to have the show focus more on appealing to foreign markets.
- There were several titles considered for this episode. These include "Writings on the Wall", "Old Unreliable Edward", and "End of the Line for Edward". The last one became the title of the next episode, and the first one became the title of an NWR Origins episode.
- Events from Edward and Gordon, Old Iron, Edward's Exploit, and Edward the Very Useful Engine are shown in flashback. The scene from Edward and Gordon was recreated as it was seen in NWR Origins. It was re-filmed as the models of Crovan and Gordon had been updated.
